Mac Server!

I know several of you have asked for this in the past, and I also know that a fair number of potential TouchControl users have purchased the iOS app, and then promptly returned it for a refund when they realized there was no Mac version of the server. I also do get the irony of an iOS app that only works with a Windows PC, not to mention the fact that the app is going to get ZERO love from Apple as long as that's a requirement. I've gone into the history of all of that before, so no need to re-hash that here, but just wanted to pass along that I am finally actively working on a Mac version of TouchControl Server!

I can't say exactly when it will be available, but progress is being made. It was a fairly daunting undertaking, as I've spent the last 6+ years pouring feature after feature, and update after update into TC Server, and now I have to basically start over from scratch with a new platform and a new programming language. I have been working on it for a while and am actually farther along that I thought I'd be by now, but wanted to wait until I was sure I would even be able to make it happen before I commented on it here.

For those of you familiar with TC Server, as you can imagine there will be a few features of the Windows version that will not be present in the Mac version. Things specific to the Windows OS, like IR (USB-UIRT) buttons, AutoHotKey buttons, and IRCommand2 support, will obviously not be there. And the Mac version will likely also not include "Offline Config" (DropBox) support, at least initially (not because of the Mac OS, but more due to low adoption and high maintenance). It will include, however, all other button types, the Screen Grabber, Global Caché IR code database and IR learning via the iTach, and other important features. There will also be things that are simply done differently. The interface will be more "multi-window", allowing you to have multiple button configurations open as well as the layout designer simultaneously. And there will likely also be other minor features that don't make the first release (whenever that is), such as a few of the options on the Tools menu, the WebRemote feature, the desktop Remote Control, etc., but they will be added in time over future releases of the Mac Server.

For those of you who are happy with or prefer/require the Windows server, don't worry, this does not at all mean that the Windows server will be discontinued. Both servers will continue to live and be actively supported and updated, and kept in parity to the extent the OS's allow.

So thanks for your continued interest in TouchControl. If you are interested in the Mac server and would like to be kept informed of updates, and/or would be interested in possible beta testing, please let me know or respond here. If there is enough interest I'll likely start a new section on the forum for this topic.

Thanks!
Dave

Mac server is here! Get it in the Mac App Store, and read about it on the web site.
